February Empties: The Month of Never-Ending Perfumes

So I know this is late, but I've been busy with work and school. As I mentioned in another post, I knew February was gonna have a whole bunch of scents to test. The pros: I love perfume! The cons: some of the scents didn't give off a good impression, because they were ones you rub on your wrist.

Enough of that, let's get down to the empties from this month:

See what I mean by scent cards? Some of them had small bits of gauze with the scent, so I could get a better grasp of the scent. Anywhoo, here are the items, starting from the top-left, going down to the bottom right:

1. Tory Burch by Tory Burch:
Very nice scent, but it was kind hard to gauge how long it lasted on my skin, because it was literally a card where you peel back the plastic, and swipe your wrist. Kind of a floral/warm/woodsy scent, but definitely not oriental. I will need to try it in-store next time I'm buying stuff.

2. Gucci Guilty:
Ew. Too much pepper and oriental undertones. I tried washing it off my wrist and it wouldn't budge. I would definitely not even want someone to buy this for me, it smelt that bad.

3. Love swept by Philosophy:
When I smelt it, I swear I smelt it somewhere else before. Then it hit me.... It smells like a Victoria's Secret fragrance called Sheer Love (which is FANTASTIC - I used to spray this on myself whenever I was at work).

4. Roses de Chloé by Chloé:
I actually liked this one! It's not a rose overboard like Givenchy's Very Irrésistible, that's for sure. It had staying power, and when I actually sprayed it in-store, I still liked the scent. It's a bit strong, so I'm holding off buying it until I try the other Chloé scents.

5. Daisy by Marc Jacobs:
I already own this in the biggest bottle I could get, as well as a rollerball. It's that good. It's been my signature scent for a few years now :)

6. Nirvana White by Elizabeth and James:
It smelt nice on my wrist when I swiped it on the card, but when I tried it in-store it was a very confusing scent. Too bad, I was ready to order the rollerball and the regular size bottle. Oh well. I definitely like it better than its counterpart...

7. Nirvana Black by Elizabeth and James:
... Let's be real, this smelt like poo. It's the sandalwood that did it in. Made it too musky and on the verge of orient undertones. Like Gucci Guilty, I tried scrubbing it off my wrist and it wouldn't budge.

8. Candy by Prada:
I liked this one, but I don't think I would purchase it. I did find it had more lasting power than Candy L'eau (which was in my fragrance sampler), but the caramel smelled like it had vanilla in it... Did I mention I'm not a big fan of strong vanilla notes in my perfume?

9. Lily by Stella McCartney:
I liked the scent, but it was very close to Lancôme's La Vie est belle that I knew I wouldn't be purchasing it. However, I made myself get throughout is sample! It does have a moderate-to-long staying power, and it's not too heavy.

10. Benefit Some Kind of Gorgeous (medium shade, if I remember correctly):
This stuff is awesome. It's a pressed-yet spongey texture when you apply, but it goes on matte and spreads well, turning into a powder. It also blends well for even coverage. I have another on I'm using, as on Boxing Day I bought two of these in a set that also had the "That Gal" primer. The downside: although it works, it has a funky smell. Don't let that through you off, though, as the smell goes away once you apply it.

11. Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega Bright skin tone correcting serum:
Megh. It was all right, but due to the sample size I found no difference in its suggested results. I feel these foil samples for skin should be bigger.

12. Benefit "That Gal" brightening face primer:
This stuff is awesome. A little goes a long way, and I found I didn't need to follow up with highlighter, as it's built in to this primer. The primer itself is like a light pink-coral, but it blends invisible once on. I did notice though that it doesn't cover pores as well as Too Faced Primed and Poreless - I have yet to see a primer de-throne it as my #1!

13. Tarte Clean Slate Flawless 12 hour brightening primer:
Unlike "That Gal," this one is yellow in hue, but goes on invisible. It also smells a bit like lemons. This one didn't really brighten, but I did find it covered pores a little better than "That Gal." Not enough though to de-throne Primed and Poreless, that's for sure!

All in all, this was a pretty good month to get through some samples. I'm hoping in March to get through some more foundation and primer, as well as some fragrances and some body lotions. I'm very close to finishing my honeydew EOS lip balm, but it's almost like a bottomless pit of good-for-your-lips goodness.

Wantable February Accessories Box 2014 - PICTURES & INVITE LINK INCLUDED

My Wantable February box arrived a few days before Valentine's Day! (I thought I had already published this, but alas, it was sitting I. My draft section... #fail) I have ordered 3 previously, and all three times they were amazing products I would never pick out for myself. Although Wantable boxes are a bit on the pricey side, I like to treat myself every once in a while.

What's great about wantable is for either of it's three boxes, you take an in-depth questionnaire to highlight what products you love, like, or dislike. With Valentine's Day coming up, this is a great option for gifting, as you can purchase a one-time box as well, for $40 (or you can be like me, and buy it as a V-Day gift for yourself!).

Anyway, onto the box!

Wantable recently changed their shipping boxes to this sleek black colour. I personally don't mind change, as it keeps things fresh :)

When I opened the box, I found this cute little greeting on top of my order confirmation sheet. Here's what it says on the back:

A quote from Sophia Loren! (She is seriously awesome - just like Wantable!)

Next, I was surprised to see my accessories wrapped so beautifully in these felt pouches, which Wantable puts in between two foam protectors. Definitely a step up from plastic, as it can protect pieces better!

First product:

This is called the Belloza necklace, and boy is it BEAU-tiful! I never though chains and crystals would look so elegant together. I'm wearing it right now as I write this review, as it's so pretty and shiny.

Belloza necklace retail value: $28.00 USD

Next product:

Wantable calls this the Hoshi ring, and it's a size 6 (I've been told more than once I have very skinny fingers lol). I actually quite like it, and it does fit in with Valentine's Day. The band is a good size; not too chunky, but not on the verge of snapping. Again, it's very shiny. As you can see, I love shiny - Wantable, how did you know? XD

Hoshi ring retail value: $12.00 USD

Finally, my last product I knew I was getting was another necklace, as when I asked them on Facebook what size chain it was, they said if I emailed CS they would be more than happy to try to get it into my box. If you've never dealt with Wantable CS, then you don't know that Amanda and the whole CS team are legit superstars. Seriously, they are BONAFIED superstars. They've gone above and beyond the call of duty for me more than once, as they have with many many MANY other subscribers .

Here it is!

This is the Kaelee necklace, and it screams spring. I'm not usually into bolder necklaces, but I'm branching out so I have more statement pieces to make my outfits pop. I saw this beaut on Wantable's Pinterest accessories board, and it was love at first sight. As I mentioned above, Amanda and the Wantable team were kind enough to get it into my box. I never outright asked, but they knew I liked it.

It's companies like these that I like to build a friendship with, as I know they treat their customers with care and respect, not just another consumer.

Kaelee necklace retail value: $34.00 USD

In total I payed around $55 CD. However, Wanatble recently gave subscribers a $3 credit towards their next boxes, as they increased international shipping by $1 USD.

Compared to what I payed, my total box value came out to $74.00 USD (approx $81.46 CD).

All in all, I am seriously content and happy as a clam with this box. Each item I received it truly unique and truly wearable pieces. :)

If you are thinking of joining Wantable, use my invite link below! You can subscribe to either their makeup box, accessories box, their intimates box, or all three! Remember, you can skip a box or cancel any time, and Wantable has a satisfaction guarantee. :)

NOTE: This review was of my own accord and personal interest. In no way was I asked to review on behalf of Wantable. All the images and comments are my personal accounts.

January Empties: Another one bites the dust

This month has been such a wonderful whirlwind! Things are shaping up for a great year, and I'm excited for spring! (I can't stand all this snow - as I write this, my area of the Great White North is being dumped with more snow)

This month also saw another end to another two full-sized products. Nothing feels better than being able to get through a whole bunch of things (February is shaping up to be full of fragrance samples, thanks to Sephora's fragrance event promo ).

Here's what I got through, with mini reviews of each product to follow:

1. Güd Natural Body Lotion in Floral Cherrynova: This lotion is amazing. It instantly moisturizer my dry hands. I recently did a more in-depth review , so I'm not gonna get too much into a review on this.

2. Murad Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture for eyes: I finished another of these last month, and it is pretty true to its name. I found my eyes also felt the skin around my eyes more firmer. A little truly goes a long way.

3. Ole Henriksen oil-free, brightening moisturizer: I found this was a pretty good product, but I felt I really did have to put it evenly over my face.

4. Boscia Recharging Night Moisture: This stuff is absolutely amazing. I got this in an Ipsy bag (can't remember which one) and I've been using it on/off since. I found my skin instantly felt refreshed and smoother the morning after, as well as the following day. I would definitely buy this again.

5. Madly Kenzo Eau de Toilette: This is a lovely perfume. I got it during the perfume launch at Sephora (it so happened the day I went to the store, they were launching). I would consider buying this, as it does have lasting power, but I think my Lancôme La Vie est belle tops all.

6. Ole Henriksen Perfect Truth CC Crème: This CC Crème is absolutely awesome. I found it spread and covered very well - literally 2 pumps and I had enough for my whole face. I also highly recommend using a primer and concealer, before applying this, as it will ensure perfect coverage. I would love to buy this; however, the full-sized bottle is a little out of my price range for now.

7. Hampton Sun SPF 15 Super Hydrating Face Cream: I'm not one to put sunscreen or moisturizer right before I start my makeup regime, but I couldn't resist. This cream left my skin super smooth, even after I wiped off my makeup. It's also lightweight, and it doesn't have an oily feel.

8. Makeup Fprever HD High Definition Primer in #0: I was referred to this primer, after I had my first VIB makeover the beginning of January. I found it did its job, but it didn't cover my pores as well as I hoped (even though during my makeover, my skin looked flawless). In all honesty I would not repurchase this, considering Too Faced Primed and Poreless stole my heart (same with Benefit's That Gal, which I will be reviewing soon).

All in all, this was a pretty good clean up. As I alluded, February is shaping up to be a month of more empties!

Sephora Beauty Insiders: "Scents of Desire" Triple Points on fragrance event, February 5-14, 2014

In my Sephora package tonight, I was given not only my samples (I was blessed to receive a 4th sample - hooray for unexpected blessings, no matter how small!), but this nifty envelope filled with 7 postcards that had fragrance samples on them:

This looks quite nifty. As the main promo card explains, these are Sephora's "most coveted perfumes."

So, it looks like the next 3x the points event ties in with Valentine's Day, as what better way to gift your significant other with perfume or cologne.

I've gotta hand it to Sephora, this is actually pretty nifty marketing. The postcards with the perfume samples (not pictured, as they are on the back with their corresponding pictures) can actually BE MAILED to people, via that good ol' snail mail!

I'm considering it, but I may just end up trying them out for myself... My mom and sister don't wear much perfume, plus I believe perfume is a personal thing; one does not simply give people perfume, unless they know that person's preference, or what scent combinations work with their body chemistry (like how I slipped in the Baramir meme? It's one of my favourite memes :D).

If you're thinking of making a fragrance purchase during the month of February, hold off until this promo goes on, as you'll get more points. If you haven't already noticed, this is for Beauty Insiders, so in order to get the points, just sign up for Sephora's BI program on-line or in-store!

** Deal Alert: bareminerals Beauty In Bloom 7-Piece Fresh-Faced Makeup Collection **

This evening my Sephora order arrived!

Not only was I expecting my UD makeup setting spray (which I will review sometime soon), but my 2 deluxe samples from their promo code VICESWAP, and my Bareminerals "Beauty in Bloom" kit as well!

I haven't had time to actually wear anything yet, but it will in the near future. I did, however, make swatches!

Here's the outside of the box:

Here's the inside. As you can see, there's a small mirro glued in as well. The box is sturdy, too - perfect if you wanna store some small things.

The kit also comes with a handy "Get the Look" card, which I thought was kinda neat:

Here's the swatch of the colours.

From top (Read: nearer to my upper arm) to bottom (Read: towards my wrist):

1. Marvelous Moxie lipgloss in Spark Plug (dusty pink pearl)
2. Marvelous Moxie lipstick in Speak Your Mind (blushing pink)
3. bareminerals Ready Eyeshadow 2.0 in Passion (glimmering plum)
4. bareminerals Ready Eyeshadow 2.0 in Muse (pink frost)
5. bareminerals Eyecolor in Nude Beach (light warm sand)
6. All-over face color in Rose Radiance (fresh rosy glow) - I know you can nearly see it, but it's in-between the shimmery colour and the pink nearest to my wrist
7. bareminerals Ready blush in The One (nude pink)

Overall, I'm quite content. When I get a chance, I'll try them all out to see how the result went, and I'll do an updated review :)

This kit can be purchased at Sephora, both on-line and in-stores at a price of C$45 (USD$36). This would make for a wonderful birthday or Valentine's Day gift, or as a treat for yourself. :)

Clean & Clear Morning Burst Brightening Facial Cleanser

I purchased this product back during the summer, and I've never had a chance to properly talk about it until now.

This cleanser is packed with bursting micro beads, and has caffeine to help perk up your skin (which is great for early mornings!). I use this with a small rubber facial scrub, as I find it helps cover my face and pores better to insure every inch of my face gets cleaned.

What I like about this product is it does make your face feel more energized and fresh, without feeling greasy. At the same time, I highly suggest following up with a moisture cream or mask, as I found my face felt dry after a few hours (but it still smelt great!).

You can find this product at major drugstores chains, as well as Wal Mart, Target, and other carriers.

Empties Challenge - Who's With Me?

Nothing is more exciting than scoring a good deal on a makeup set, or getting a new lipstick. However, if you're like me, you've got a lot of samples sitting in your drawer, as well as un-opened products from value and gift sets.

I propose a challenge! Like my December empties from 2013 , I have been going through all my makeup and samples. I look to see which ones I can get through by the end of the month - it doesn't matter if the product is new, half-used, gently used... the point is to clear out a bunch of little samples and bottles.

Now, I know a lot of people feel this may be daunting, so I'm gonna say products can roll over to the next month, if it's still not finished. HITTING THE PAN DOES NOT COUNT AS FINISHED! What I found helps is limiting myself to one of every product. That way, if I focus on just those products, I can get through them faster.

Here are the rules:

- 1 mascara
- 1 primer
- 1 foundation
- 1 concealer
- 1 eyeshadow palette
- 1 eyeshadow primer
- 1 lip balm
- 2 lip gloss - MUST be different shades
- 1 lip stick
- 1 lip primer
- 1 blush
- 1 face lotion
- 1 body lotion
- 1 perfume
* ALL products can either be full-sized, sample, or deluxe size. The objective of the challenge is to commit to only the products above (emergency cases where a different product must be needed is fine, such as a different eyeshadow palette for an evening look)
* If you finish a product before the end of the month, congrats! Start a new product of the same category (ex. empty mascara = start new one)
* If products are not done by the end of the month, they MUST roll-over as the product for the next month. I don't believe in throwing out half-finished products.
* If you are running out of products from the list, you can buy new ones, but only if you're almost done that specific product. DO NOT start the new one, however, UNTIL you finish the nearly-empty one!
* If you see any products missing from this list you would like to include, by all means go ahead. I didn't specify skin cleansing products, as everyone has a set regime and may need a different combo of products. If you do, STICK TO THOSE ONES!

I've already been doing this for January, but if anyone would like to join me in this challenge for February, please comment below. Re-post these rules on your blog, citing the link to this entry :)

I feel this will be a great way for us to get through everything, without feeling pressured to finish a set number of products per month. This way, if one month you finish 2, the next month you may finish 5... everyone will feel accomplished!

Review: Güd from Burt's Bees Natural Body Lotion

Back in December I requested a sample from a new brand called Güd via Facebook. I arrived earlier this week, and I've been holding out until it was freezing cold.

Well, in the GTA today it's not only freezing, but there's wind. You heard me. So I did what any person would do: break out the lotion.

The scent I requested from Güd is Floral Cherrynova (say that 5 times fast). What I noticed immediately after putting it on was it hydrates very well. It's been 5 minutes and my skin still feels hydrated. The scent itself is strong at first, but dies down. It kinda reminds me of cherry blossoms (duh, it's called Floral Cherrynova...).

The sample itself came with a manufacture's cupon for $1.50 any full-sized product, so I'm definitely gonna buy a bottle... Only once I'm done getting through some other lotions :s haha.

In conjunction to this (AMAZING) body lotion, they have body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. What's even better is they're all natural :)

Güd from Burt's Bees can be purchased at any Rexall/Pharma plus! as well as Target, PriceSmart Foods, and Saveonfoods.

Review: OLE HENRIKSEN Perfect Truth™ CC Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Back in August I received a deluxe sample of this CC cream for 100 points at Sephora (the full-size bottle is C$45 at Sephora). I decided to try it on a whim, seeing as I was looking to find a good BB or CC cream.

Things to note:
- a little of this product goes a long way. I use about 2 pumps and it covers my face pretty well where I need it most (*cough* - under my eyes).
- the formula is lightweight, and spreads once put on. I found it evened out on my face; however, I highly recommend using a blush brush or bristle brush and gently patting your face in circular motions. This will help distribute the cream evenly - even though my foundation brush does a stellar job, it never hurts to go that extra mile.
- coverage lasts a typical work day. However, I do recommend putting a primer on as a base, as it will make it last all day.
- they weren't joking when they say be careful around the eye area... Once or twice the cream go a bit in my eye, and it stung like a banshee. Be super careful when applying under the eyes!

Here's what the cream looks like on my arm. It looks dark, but once applied to my face it matched perfectly.

All in all, this was a pretty solid CC cream. That being said, I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to dish out C$45 for it. I'm pretty new to the BB/CC cream game, so I would need to compare this against a few others before I take the plunge. I'm getting ready to try a BB cream from Maybelline in the next few days, plus I'm still testing out one from the Body Shop. :)

EOS Lip Balms: Review

With chilly winter weather, the need to moisturizer chapped lips is crucial in keeping your lips happy and healthy.

As I'm writing this, there's a whole bunch of snow no one asked for coming down like it's going out of style.

In other news, EOS (Evolution of Smooth) Lip Balms. What can't I say except they're one of the best lip balms out there. These small, spherical coloured balls of happiness may look cute, but they're packed with lasting moisture for your lips. I find I use mine 2-3 times per day!

Here's my EOS Summerberry balm, compared to a standard 500 mL water bottle.

The balm itself has a thumb groove to twist open to the actual lip balm. As you can see, the balm is a bit yellow, but it goes on clear. I like to apply my balm first, then apply lip gloss over for extra lasting colour :)

The more you use them, the smoother your lips will feel. Another plus is they come in a wide range of colours and flavours, such as honeydew, mint, raspberry, summer berry, and even vanilla :) I currently own 3: honeydew (in a light green case), mint (in a light blue case), and summerberry (as seen above).

What makes this balm a keeper is it's packed with vitamin E, perfect to keep your lips hydrated and smooth. In comparison to Baby Lips (another drugstore favourite), EOS has a more smoother application. I find Baby Lips has this petroleum consistency, and although it works, my lips feel like they're coated in blubber for the first half hour :( With EOS, it's like my lips have something with the consistency of a lip gloss, or even cocoa butter.

You can pick up your EOS lip balms from Shoppers Drug Mart/ Pharmaprix, Wal Mart, Costco, and other fine retailers. Depending on where you go, they can range in price from C$3.49 - C$5. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side, but they last a long time (as mentioned, I use my honeydew balm 2-3 times a day, and I've had it since September 2013!). Costco and Shoppers may even sell value packs, so keep your eyes open :)

How has your experience with EOS lip balms been? Which flavour is your favourite?

Review: Too Faced Primed and Poreless

2013 was a year of expanding my makeup reservoir and knowledge. With this came the realization there exists a product known as primer.

This past year, I stumbled upon Too Faced's Prime and Poreless, whilst looking to order some makeup from Sephora.ca.

Let me tell you something: this primer has to be one of the best out there.

The first time I tried it I was in a hurry to get ready and leave on-time for work. By the time I got in the car and was off to work, I noticed my skin felt... Incredible.

When I looked in my rear-view mirror, I noticed right off the bat my pores looked significantly smaller, in some areas non-existent. My skin itself felt smooth and like a china doll.

After a busy day at work, my makeup was still in-place. There was also very minimal transfer of foundation residue when I answered my cell.

Primed and Poreless is available at Sephora and sephora.ca for C$38 :)

In closing, I give this primer 9 faces out of 10! (4.5 stars x 2 faced... Get it? No? Well then... We shan't have tea together tomorrow at high noon. I thought it was pretty witty. xD )

Critique du parfum Honey, de Marc Jacobs

** If you would like to read my review for this fragrance in English, please click here **

Honey by Marc Jacobs Review

** I recently mentioned in another entry I redeemed my Shoppers Drug Mart Fragrance Sampler certificate for Honey by Marc Jacobs. To see what other fragrances appeared in the fall/ winter 2013 fragrance sampler set, as well as my reviews of each fragrance, please click here . **

Honey by Marc Jacobs is the newest scent from the designer, and has a bottle similar to its sister, Dot.

What drew me to this scent was it's composition. The subtle honey notes provide a warm and comforting undertone. I already own Daisy and Daisy Eau So Fresh, so I had to chuckle when I ended up redeeming for their younger sister, Honey - I guess you can say I'm a MJ perfume house appreciator.

Here's what the box looks like:

Here's what the 50 mL bottle looks like:

Pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself.

As mentioned, I tested this scent against 9 others in a fragrance sampler. Here's what I observed while wearing it:

- Initial spray is a bit strong, but it's sweet. Don't worry, it's not like someone whipped musk or baby powder at you... I get turned off by perfumes that pack a punch at the beginning, and fade to nothing by dry down.
- Dry down unleashes honey notes, as well as fruity undertones (definitely can smell the pear- yum).
- Scent lasts MINIMUM 2 hours. That means it will last longer on certain people and if the scent works well with their body chemistry. In reality I find it does last longer, but you won't smell it on yourself. Other people will be able to, which for me is the mark of a true fragrance.

All in all I give this fragrance 4 honey bees out of 5!  I can't give it 5, as that would mean it's perfect. For me, nothing can truly be perfect ;) haha.

How has your experience been with Honey by Marc Jacobs? Do you like or own any other of MJ perfumes? Leave your comments below!

** DEAL ALERT: Laoncôme La Vie est belle Fragrance set at Hudson's Bay ** (Review of fragrance included)

This past Boxing week, Hudson's Bay has marked down their La Vie est belle fragrance set from C$105, down to C$96. Considering the set itself is worth C$138, this was a deal yours truly could not pass up.

 The outside of the box

If you haven't read my entry about December empties and testers, then you should know I love this perfume. A lot. Ever since I got a sample in one of my Sephora online purchases, I fell in love. It's become my go-to scent for fall and winter.

Hudson's Bay has another set for C$98, and with the bigger bottle, but this set is better value. Here's why:

That's right. Not only do you get the 50 mL bottle, but a 5 mL bottle, a 50 mL bath gel, AND a 50 mL body lotion!

I have yet to try the bath gel or the body lotion, but I'm just happy as a clam that this was on sale! (the last few precious drops of my sample fell on the bathroom tiles and shattered. Womps.)

Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty of the scent:

There's iris, patchouli, and gourmand. That's it. I usually don't like iris, but it definitely works in this fragrance. The scent itself lasts 5+ hours. I had some of it transfer onto my scarf after I had put it on (I was in a rush, okay?), and it stayed on it for 3 weeks! When I put it on in the morning, all I need is one spritz on my neck or wrist, and it lasts the whole day :)

The first time I tried it on, my mom, dad, and sister all walked into my room and all asked what that lovely scent was ;)

If you've been eyeing this fragrance like I have, and you've found you like the scent combination on your skin, now's the chance to buy the set - I suggest you get it ASAP, as it may not be around much longer. Hudson's Bay does have other sets as well to match everyone's price point, but in terms of one that has all 4 of these items, this is your chance!

How do you find this fragrance? Leave your comments below!

Shoppers Drug Mart Fragrance Sampler (Fall/Winter 2013 Edition): Photos, Perfume Reviews, and Feedback

*** The opinions and reviews herein are my own. I am in no way payed or affiliated with Shoppers Drug Mart, or any of the fragrance companies found within this sampler. ***

Shoppers Drug Mart released a new edition of their fragrance sampler this past Christmas season. Being the perfume aficionado that I am, I sprang for this during Boxing Week. The box is C$75, but the certificate is good for a standard 50 mL / 1.7 fl. oz bottle (the fragrances in this sampler are marked at the $80 price point, so after taxes you're saving just over C$5 if you opt to buy the sampler!)

This is the outside of the box - I'm already excited

Inside the box, you'll find the 10 vials of perfumes, a (somewhat) handy fragrance guide, and the gift certificate. The certificate itself has space for you to rate each fragrance on a scale of 1-5 (1 being you dislike, 5 being you love), as well as a simple questionnaire asking about your experience.

These are the sizes of the vials - pretty standard

The fragrance guide includes the scent compositions, as well as what the 50 mL bottles will look like. They even include the synopsis of each perfume's "scent story"

I bought this thinking it would be an easy-peasy decision... I had had my eye on Honey and Bejeweled for a while now. I had spritzed both before, and I wasn't able to tell if I truly liked them.

Let me just tell y'all right now: it's not as easy-peasy as it seemed!

Lemme break it down for you:

1. Honey by Marc Jacobs: This is a very lovely and feminine scent. I found it wasn't too overpowering, and the scent dry down worked well with my body chemistry. The fragrance itself has fruits, honey, vanilla, and wood scents (as stated in the fragrance guide). I ended up trading my certificate in for this! (To see a more in-depth review, check out my post for this fragrance)

2. Lacoste, Eau de Lacoste: Surprisingly this scent ended up being my second choice, right after Honey. The only reason I ended up not getting it is because the scent itself, although lovely, wasn't as strong when coupled with my body chemistry.

3. Very Irrésistible, Givenchy: This scent everyone loved on me. Although it was nice, I found the roses in it became very overpowering. I constantly could smell it on me. Furthermore, I found it was very similar to Lancôme's La Vie est belle (which I purchased during Boxing week - for an in-depth review, please check out my posting).

4. Be Jeweled by Vera Wang: This was originally my second choice, as I didn't get a chance to properly test it the first time I was able to. It's definitely fruity, and I found the champagne undertones were lovely. The bottle in the brochure, as well as in-store always captivated me. However, the perfume itself doesn't last very long. I found after 2 hours I could barely smell it... even my family couldn't really smell it, unless they literally smelled my wrist or my neck. *sigh* This would be a lovely perfume, if it could last longer.

5. Viva la Juicy by Juicy Couture: I know a lot of people like this scent, and I know a few people who own it and swear by it. However, I found on me it smelled too much of vanilla (a scent I don't really care for, unless it's in very small doses).

6. Untold by Elizabeth Arden: How do I sum up this one? I know: Old Lady. Now I remember why I try to stay clear of these types of scents, as it reminds me of the day I smelled Red Door for the first time (let's just say the scent stayed in my nostrils and made me sick).

7. Down Town by Calvin Klein: Ugh. This one wasn't even memorable. It starts off weird at first, but when it dries down it smells like other fragrances.

8. Ralph Lauren Big Pony #2: Surprisingly, this was a nice scent. I found though it smelled a lot like a Victoria's Secret fragrance (I used to work for VS, and for some reason Big Pony #2 reminds me of Aqua Kiss).

9. Prada Candy L'Eau: This one is sickeningly sweet. I had to scrub it off... even then, it stuck on my skin for almost 2 hours :(

10. Calvin Klein Euphoria: Megh. Too strong for me... Just like Down Town, this one's no big thrill.

If you've been on the fence about buying a fragrance sampler from Shoppers Drug Mart, I'd encourage you to try it! You may end up finding a great new fragrance :)

December 2013 Empties and Testers

For anyone who's like me, you probably have a lot of samples lying around your room. Admit it: you've thought about throwing them all out, but you feel bad. After seeing many people's blog posts about their empties/ "hit-the-pan" experiences, I thought I'd try it out.

All I can say is, what a great feeling! It's nice being able to actually set a goal and get through all those pesky samples and beauty/makeup products I have :D

For December 2013, here are the products I tested/finished:

 1. Philosophy Living Grace fragrance, eau de toilette: (sample size = 1.5 mL / 0.05 fl. oz.) Full size: C$20 - C$55 at Sephora

I wish I had a better review for this, but truth of the matter is you won't believe me. In all honesty, I opened the stopper (it's one of those pesky cork-like vials), it slipped out of my hand, and spilt all over my comforter :(

From what I smelt, it was a nice scent. I will have to get another one to do a proper review.

2. Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation: (sample size = small paper circles, net wt. 0.003 oz.) Full size: C$42 at Sephora

This sample came with 4 small circles of shades for fair complexions. I opted to try shade 117, Golden Ivory.

It is an interesting foundation, to say the least. It's powder upon application, but it changes to a creamy-like texture once it heats up to your skin. Coverage was all right, a little did go a long way... that being said, does MUFE really expect a small circle of pressed powder, about 2 cm in diameter, to cover my face? I don't think so. If they do, then I'm the Queen of Sheba.

3. Racinne: Ultimate Hydra Perfection Collection: (4 products, sample sizes  = 12 mL / 0.04 fl. oz. )
Full sizes: TBA

This review if for the following products used together:

Gentle Cleansing Foam
Essentialift Supplement Serum
Optimal Fortifying Emulsion
Ultimate Defense Illuminating Cream

All the products felt lightweight. At first I thought my face was gonna change overnight into someone else's face, what with the feeling of too much product at once. However, when I woke up in the morning, my face felt like a newborn's skin. I would definitely try all again, maybe with deluxe-size samples instead of foil packs, as I only got one use of each product. I will say this: my face was hydrated, like this collection's namesake.

You win this round, Racinne.

4. Kat Von D. Painted Love Lipstick, Lolita: (sample size = 0.042 oz. / 1.2 g) Full size: C$23 at Sephora

This review is for the dusty rose shade, Lolita. I found the colour did not compliment my skin tone (light-medium skin with olive undertones), as it was a dark dusty rose... I didn't even bother to finish it, as I tried it 3 times and truly did not like the colour.

5. Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub: (sample size = 30 mL / 1.7 fl. oz.) Full size: TBA

I received this in my August 2013 Ipsy bag, and boy was I glad I did. It's a really nice facial scrub, and it leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. In terms of effectiveness, you do need to use it with consistency - I found if I used it 3-4 times a week, I had less blackheads around my nose.

Be sure to hydrate your skin after use, as I did find on days I didn't use it, my skin felt dry and/ or oily.

6. Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture for Eyes: (Sample size = 0.03 fl. oz. / 0.9 mL) Full size: TBA

I actually liked this. I found my eyes felt more rested and hydrated. I still have another 1 or 2 packets to try, so that'll give me a chance to go more in-depth with a review :D

7. Lancôme La vie est belle, L'Eau de Parfum: (Sample size = 1.5 mL / 0.05 fl. oz.) Full size: C$72 - C$109 at Sephora

This has become my fall/winter fragrance, as it has nice woodsy undertones. The combination of iris, patchouli, and gourmand make for a light and airy fragrance that surprisingly lasts a long time (from personal experience, I'd say at least 5+ hours after initial spray).

By chance some transferred onto my scarf, and I could smell it for 3 weeks - it smelt like I just put it on!

I loved it so much, bought the set at Hudson's Bay during Boxing Week. (See my in-depth review later on in my blog)

8. Pixi Lash Booster Mascara: (Sample size = ?) Full size: TBA

I got this in my Ipsy August 2013 glam bag as well. This honestly is one of the worst mascaras I've tried. I really tried to give it a chance, but it made my eyes water, the mascara itself was messy, and worse, it was a pain to take off. I didn't even bother to finish it, as I will definitely not purchase it again.

9. Yaby Concealer in "Honey", cc042: (Sample size = ?) Full Size: TBA

Yet another Ipsy product. This one was from my May 2013 Ipsy glam bag. The reason this is not finished is it has a yellow undertone, and is a shade or 2 darker than my skin. It was all right, and it did cover well.

10. Pürminerals Cease Crease Eye Shadow Primer: (Sample size = 0.07 oz. / 2 g.) Full size: TBA
This is actually a decent primer. I have another tube (a full-sized one) my aunt gave me, so I can review again in the future. With that being said, I am a bit biased (Too Faced Shadow Insurance stole my heart). Pürminerals , you'll need to impress me!

11. Too Faced Lip Insurance: (Sample size = 3.5 g / 0.12 Oz.) Full size: C$27 at Sephora
I LOVE this stuff! Keeps my lip colour locked in all day - even the colour from my lip gloss!

12. Atelier Cologne, Orange Sanguine: (Sample size = ?) Full size: C$28 - C$165 at Sephora
It's too strong for me to wear on my skin, so I use it to spritz up my room :)

13. Dior Diorskin Nude Skin-Glowing Makeup SPF 15, shade 020 (Light Beige): Full size: C$54 at Sephora

If you're looking for a good liquid mineral-based foundation, this one is really good. It's light-weight, and it lets your skin breathe. Don't let the price deter you from purchasing, as a little goes a long way (this is the full-sized bottle I bought in January 2013. It's lasted me to December 2013). You'll only need 1-2 pumps to cover your face :)

All-in-all, there were a lot of things in these samples I'd probably purchase again (one being my foundation). If you have any questions, feel free to comment!

Happy New Year!

Happy new year to all of you in the blogosphere!

With this new year comes a new type of blog - one that will explore perfumes, makeup, sales, and even things outside of beauty  ( such as books, devotionals, life experiences, and life lessons).

These posts and findings will for the most part be written in English, but on occasion I will translate some of the more important entries into French as well. :)

Now, you may be asking, "why the French?"

Well, seeing as my blog name IS bilingual, not to mention I'm posting from the Great White North that is Canada, I thought it suiting.

Enjoy the posts!
